May 131r 201
E: Schoolhouse Road Habitat Subdivision Seer
This is a quick memo to discuss the ability of the existing sever system in Efland to beadle the
additional flow projected from the proposed Habitat for Humanity Subdivision on Schoolhouse
Road, The existing McGowan Greek pump station off of l -Cedar Grove Road, to which
the entire system's wastewater flows, can comfortably handle an average daily flow of 300,000
gallons per day Gi The current average daily flog from the existing 225 customers of the
fi a n sewe r system is between 359 00 0 and 401000 G PD , or less than 15% of the capacity of
the pump station. The wastewater is pumped to the Torn o Hillsborough's wastewater
collection system, where it flows by gravity to the Town's wastewater treatment facility.
Orange County has a utility connection agreement with the Town of Hillsborough to receive an
average of to 380,000 G r t The current flow is roughly o of our allotted capacity with
the Town of Hillsborough.
Based o o the proposed 28 r s'rdences in the Habitat for Hu man ity subdivision, the wastewate r
flow to the Efiand system can be estimated to increase by an average of approximately 6,000
GP D. This is based on the current average POPUlat ion in the area of 2.64 people per
household, which I've rounded up to 3 people per household. An acceptably conservative
estimate of wastewate r~ usage is 70 G P D per capita. This results in an average of 210 G
per household, or a total of slightly less than 6000 GPD. This amount represents
approximately 2% of the current system capacity and can easily be accommodated by the
existing infrastructure.
One note of disclaimer: this analysis is with regards to projected flog only and the capacities of
the oxisfing infrastructure. This memo should In no way be construed as approval of the
subdivision plan or any planned utility infrastructure e to sions to serve this subdivision, which
are still under review*
