Bob Lockwood said that they were hoping that this would be a community effort to provide this
facility.
John Link suggested that staff work with Bob Lockwood and come back with a proposal at budget time.
Commissioner Brown asked about the price on the building and if this was the tax evaluation. She also
asked if all the square footage was being used by the Red Cross at this time.
Bob Lockwood said that there are other agencies in the building like Orange County Disability
Awareness Council, EMS Paramedic, and Volunteer Orange. One of the important things is that the space gives them
the opportunity to expand.
Commissioner Brown asked if the County has contributed money like this before. John Link said that
he will provide a total list of the agencies to which contributions have been made. Commissioner Brown also asked
how the County would recoup its investment if the property is sold. She wants to know more specifics about the Red
Cross programs for the citizens of Orange County.
Commissioner Jacobs asked about the amount of funding the Red Cross gets from Orange County.
Bob Lockwood said they get no funding from federal, state, or local government. All of their funding is
through donations.
Chair Gordon said that when we look at funding requests we look at how it contributes to county
services, and if the money will leverage other funds.
The Board will consider this request at the time of the budget approval.
b. GIS Presentation
The Board viewed a demonstration of newly acquired data and future capabilities of the Geographic
Information System (GIS).
Rod Visser introduced Chris Dwinell, GIS Applications Developer, and Land Records Manager Roscoe
Reeve. They presented examples of what they have already developed, as well as future developments based on the
funding in the CIP in future years.
11. APPOINTMENTS - NONE
12.
