Local <br />government staffs work with the nonprofits on a regular basis, since many nonprofit <br />activities are supported with local funds. The following organizations provided a key <br />role in the development of this 5-year Consolidated Plan: <br />• Community Home Trust is a housing development ~orpvration, whose <br />operating budget is funded by Qrange County, Chapel HMI and Carrboro. The <br />organization utilizes the land trust model for ho.me~wnership to create <br />permanently affordable housing opportunities far Orange County residents. <br />• Habitat for Humanity of orange County is a strong #ocal affiliate of the <br />national organization a,nd strives to develop affordable u~n~ts ,within Orange <br />County, the Town of Hillsborough and Town of chapel Hill. <br />• InterFaith Council for Social Service ~IFC} operates a homeless shelter and <br />is a chief advocate for the homeless popula~iQn. 1=C also offers a program to <br />prevent homelessness through financial assistance :~o families that are at risk of <br />losing their permanent housing. <br />• orange Congregations in Mission serves , norther. Urange County, offering <br />programs that prevent homelessness through .~nanciaC assistance to families that <br />are at risk of losing their permanent bous~n~r~ <br />• The Joint orange~~~`atam Community Action Agency is a local community <br />action agency offering a vui~~ variety of rehabilitation, weatherization, counseling <br />and financial ass~s~ance to very low-income families. <br />• EmPaWERment, Inca 1s a community` development corporation that promotes <br />models of c~~munity binding, problem solving and social action to mobilize low- <br />incom~ communities to b~i~dshared vision and paver for community change. <br />• Co~munity Alternatives for Supportive Abodes ~CASA~ is anon-profit a <br />developer of affordable multi-unit rental properties for residents who are law- <br />incorne or have mental and/or physical disabilities. <br />Private Industry <br />Private fenders especially those interested in achieving the lending goals of the <br />Community Reinvestment Acts, public lenders like Rural Development, builders, <br />realtors and developers, are entities whose assistance is crucial to the success of <br />housing initiatives undertaken in Orange County. <br />Utility companies develop construction and energy conservation standards to reduce <br />energy costs. They also provide information and training on energy-saving practices <br />in home, such as how to install insulation and weather stripping.
