FORUMS <br />Comments from the February 14, 2011 Chape; H~1[ Town Cor~nci[ Budget <br />Public Forum <br />~.. Aubrey Vinson, the Youth Director at the _Chape! Hil~~Carrboro YMCA, asked <br />the Council to support the YMCA's After School Qu:~iTeach Program and <br />described the benefits of the program. <br />2. Susan Levy, the Executive Director of Habitat i=orj Humanity, said that Habitat <br />for Humanity has used HQME and CDBG funds ire the Phoenix Place <br />subdivision which houses m~n~r'~NC employeesr! <br />3. Robert Dowling, the Executive Direc~nf ~f the Com~~nity Home Trust, <br />thanked the Council for its support of the Cammunity~'~Home Trust and asked <br />the Council for its continued support this year, ~. <br />4. A Council Member,sa~d:~hat there is ~ greater need throughout the Town, but <br />less Federal money, sa, deciding haft a use the funds will be a difficult <br />decision. <br />5. A Council M~mk~er stated that the CDBG_, funds are at risk, and encouraged <br />citizens to speak with their a~.g~essrnan and Senators to ask them to <br />support the CDBG, program." <br />Comments firom`'the March, 8, 2011, Chape[ Hi[[ Council Budget Public <br />Forum <br />~~ Terry Allebaugh~ the Executive Director of Housing for New Hope, supports <br />~~ tie staff recomr~e:ndation for the use of the X011-2012 HOME and CDBG <br />finds. He stated ~~at Housing for New Hope rehoused over 67 people over <br />the p;~st year and'' helps link people to support services, <br />2. Robert: D~wl~ng, the Executive Director of the Community Home Trust, Hated <br />that the Community Home Trust is asking for more funding this year than <br />before due to the increase of units that they are receiving, and they have <br />identified many needs. <br />3. Michelle Laws, President of the Chapel HiIIJCarrboro NAACP, suggested <br />looking at the racial equity in the distribution of funds. She stated that the <br />lack of affordable housing and unemployment is contributing to a decrease in <br />the African-American population in Chapel Hill. She suggested that the <br />applicants far CDBG and HOME funding should submit statements about the <br />breakdown of their clients by race and gender. <br />4. A Council Member stated a concern about recommending a funding plan by <br />April z5~" if that date is before the Special Use Permit vote for the Inter Faith <br />Council Transitional Housing facility.
