43 <br />~~,., ... <br />Chapter 7: Parks and Recreation Element <br />Parks and Recreation Goal 5: Park. and recreational facilities <br />that are environmentally-responsible, and where cultural and <br />natural resources and open space. within these sites are <br />protected. <br />Objective PR-5.1: <br />Locate parks and recreational facilities close to residential areas to <br />encourage informal interaction with nature, encourage walkability, <br />and create areas of wildlife habitat with appropriate recreational <br />facilities within the more populated areas. (See also Natural Areas <br />Objective NA-13.) <br />Objective PR-5.2: <br />Landscape parks and recreational facilities with native vegetation and <br />minimize water use where practical. Prohibit use of known invasive <br />non-native species in County facilities, and take steps to eradicate <br />occurrences of same. <br />Objective PR-5.3: <br />Ensure public access to County-owned parks and nature preserves, <br />but direct facilities and trails away from the most ecologically <br />sensitive sites. <br />Obiective PR-5.4: <br />Encourage development of a system of private open space and <br />conservation areas, including nature preserves, parks, linear parks, <br />and scenic vistas compatible with the character of Orange County. <br />(See also Natural Areas Objectives NA-1 1, NA-12, and NA-16, and <br />Transportation Objective T- 1.5.) <br />Objective PR-5.5: <br />Develop linear parks and rustic trails in the Rural Buffer, and explore <br />opportunities for preservation and connectivity along other identified <br />stream corridors. <br />Objective PR-5.6: <br />Create a new Parks and Recreation Facilities Plan Map, to guide <br />future parks planning and help leverage outside funding. <br />Orc~.v~~Cou.vtity Co-rx~reh.P.v~i~v~~tac-w Page 7-13 <br />
