Z <br />The BOCC approved High Rock Village Subdivision through the major subdivision process <br />on January 31, 2003 with Virginia Lee Lane, Sunglow Court, and Stacy Court designated <br />as public roads. The subdivision roads provide access for 25 homes: <br />• Virginia Lee Lane —14 homes (0.53 -miles long, paved, 50 feet right -of -way) <br />• Sunglow Court — 4 homes (0.09 -miles long, paved, 50 feet right -of -way) <br />• Stacy Court— 7 homes (0.16 -miles long, paved, 50 feet right -of -way) <br />The subdivision is located east of the High Rock Road /Mill Creek Road intersection, <br />Cnnaliminn <br />All above- referenced applications meet the criteria endorsed by the BOCC for <br />recommending acceptance of a public road into the State Maintained System for roads <br />approved through the governing jurisdiction's major subdivision process. <br />NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to attachments lb and 2b) and .has <br />submitted petitions to the BOCC for its review and recommendation. In accordance with <br />North Carolina General Statute §136 -62 *, the Board is required to make a recommendation <br />regarding the petitions to the North Carolina Board of Transportation ( NCDOT) before the <br />NCDOT can consider the petitions. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact to the County associated with this <br />item. NCDOT will incur additional maintenance responsibilities and costs. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board: <br />1. Forward the Petitions for Addition to the State Maintained System to the North <br />Carolina Department of Transportation for subdivision roads in: <br />a. Efland Estates Section 2; and <br />b. High Rock Village Subdivision <br />2, Recommend the Department of Transportation accept the roads for maintenance <br />as State Secondary Roads. <br />* North Carolina General Statute §136 -62 directs that "The citizens of the State shall have the right to <br />present petitions to the board of county commissioners, and through the board to the Department of <br />Transportation, concerning additions to the system and improvement of roads. The board of county <br />commissioners shall receive such petitions, forwarding them on to the Board of Transportation with their <br />recommendations." <br />
