<br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: April 5, 2011 <br />Action Agenda <br />Item No. -~ <br />SUBJECT: The Week of the Young Child Proclamation <br />DEPARTMENT: County Commissioners PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Proclamation <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Donna Baker, 245-2130 <br />PURPOSE: To consider a proclamation designating April 10-10, 2011 as The Week of the <br />Young Child. <br />BACKGROUND: The Orange County Partnership for Young Children and other local <br />organizations, in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children, <br />are celebrating April 10-16, 2011 as The vlleek of the Young Child. The purpose of this <br />celebration is to bring public attention to the needs of young children and recognizing all those <br />who make a difference in the lives of young children. <br />Many organizations are working to improve early [earning opportunities, including early literacy <br />programs that can provide a foundation of learning for young children in Orange County. <br />The Board of Commissioners approved a similar proclamation last year. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with consideration of the <br />proclamation. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the proclamation <br />and authorize the Chair to sign it. <br />
