Chair Margaret Brown is not sure that this is the appropriate program. She would like additional
information on other programs available for the purchase of farmland.
Commissioner Halkiotis asked for additional information from Forsyth County about their program.
C. User Fee Review
The Board received a staff report on development-related user fees. This report focuses on planning and
environmental health fees.
Finance Director Ken Chavious summarized this information. The Health Board recently approved new
fees for Environmental Health. These are included in the report.
Chair Margaret Brown made reference to the erosion control fees and asked if staff knows why the
costs are higher. The County is subsidizing this program by some $96,000.
John Link said that the towns would like to have a higher level of service which is not possible with the
limited number of personnel in that department.
Chair Margaret Brown would like to hear from Mr. Faircloth about increasing urban fees since some
projects are time intensive. Right now the fee is a flat fee per acre without regard to time spent in the field.
Chair Margaret Brown asked for a report on what it would take for Warren Faircloth to cover all the County
as necessary. She also requested a list of fees from surrounding areas.
d. 1998-99 Commissioners' Goals
This item was delayed until the next meeting.
11. APPOINTMENTS - NONE
12.
