BOARD COMMENTS <br />Commissioner Halkiotis asked for a report on how much the County is spending on Hog Day. <br />4. COUNTY MANAGER'S REPORT <br />Management Analyst Sharron Siler introduced some of the students who will be participating in the <br />Official for a Day program tomorrow. She outlined the agenda that the student will be considering during their <br />mock County Commissioners meeting. <br />5. RESOLUTIONS/PROCLAMATIONS <br />a. Draft Resolution -- Legislative Initiatives and Points of Interest of Orange County for the <br />1998 Short Legislative Session <br />The Board considered a draft resolution and setting a public hearing for May 6, 1998, 7:30 p.m., <br />related to legislative initiatives and points of interest that the Board may present to the Orange County <br />legislative delegation for consideration during the 1998 short session of the General Assembly. <br />Geoffrey Gledhill made reference to a letter that he received today from the NCACC for items they <br />will be introducing tomorrow. He explained the items included in this draft resolution. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to take to <br />public hearing the legislative initiatives and points of interest as presented. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />b. County Clerks Week <br />The Board considered proclaiming May 4-10, 1998, as County Clerks Week in Orange County. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Crowther to <br />approve the proclamation as stated below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />COUNTY CLERKS WEEK <br />MAY 4 THROUGH MAY 10, 1998 <br />WHEREAS, the office of the County Clerk, a time honored and vital part of local government exists <br />throughout the world, and <br />WHEREAS, the office of the County Clerk is the oldest among public servants, and <br />WHEREAS, the office of the County Clerk provides the professional link between the citizens, the local <br />governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels, and <br />WHEREAS, the County Clerk has pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and impartiality, rendering <br />equal service to all, and <br />WHEREAS, the County Clerk serves as the information center on functions of local government and <br />community, and <br />WHEREAS, the County Clerk continually strives to improve the administration of the affairs of the Office of <br />the County Clerk through participation in education programs, seminars, workshops and the annual meetings <br />of their state, county and international professional organizations, and <br />WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that we recognize the accomplishments of the Office of the County Clerk,
