Volunteers from the South Orange Rescue Squad (SORB), headquartered
in Carrboro, participate in the EMS system in a support role. The agency is typically
not a primary response agency. The rescue squad often has volunteers riding with
County EMS personnel. This provides additional resources for EMS response and is
an important skill development and maintenance program for the SORB. A number
of County EMS personnel are, or have been, members of the SORB.
There are approximately 11, 500 emergency medical calls for service annually
which result in the transport of 7,000 patients. Exhibit 66 shows the number of EMS
calls for service during the last three years and includes projections of demand for
2010 to 2011. There is increased activity during the college academic year, August
through May.
EXHIBIT 66
REQUESTS FOR.
