68 <br />ORANGE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />MEBANE FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />-The Mebane Fire Department provides fire and first responder services to <br />some residents in the Efland Fire District along the Orange County/Alamance County <br />line. The department provides services with a paid career force consisting of one Fire <br />Chief, one Fire Prevention Captain, three Lieutenants, and nine firefighters. The <br />department has 26 volunteer firefighters. The Fire Chief and the Fire Prevention <br />Captain are scheduled to work regular business hours. <br />Exhibit 63 displays the department's staffing. <br />ExHlerr 63 <br />CURRENT DEPARTMENT STAFFING <br />POSITION TOTAL STAFFING <br />Fire Chief 1 <br />Fire Prevention Captain 1 <br />Lieutenant Z <br />Paid Firefighter 9 <br />Volunteer Firefighter 26 <br />.Total 39 <br />All members of the Mebane Fire Department maintain the State required 36 <br />hours per year training requirement. Additionally, all paid firefighting staff are <br />certified at the EMT-Basic level. The department operates effectively within the <br />Orange County response ..system. When an emergency arises within the Orange <br />County response area, the Mebane Fire Department is notified by Orange County <br />through the VIPER Radio System. Additionally, Orange County personnel notify <br />Alamance County personnel of the emergency. Mebane fire units assigned to respond <br />to Orange County are equipped with both Alamance and Orange County Radio <br />hardware. The department has averaged approximately 1,800 emergency responses <br />per year over the past three years. It is estimated that approximately 20 percent of <br />the department's calls for service are within Orange County.
