WHEREAS, The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and the <br /> National Association of Counties have urged citizens across the <br /> state and the nation to learn more about county government's role <br /> in our lives; and <br /> WHEREAS, Orange County government has served the citizens of the County <br /> since 1752 and places its emphasis on addressing citizens' concerns <br /> and needs; and <br /> WHEREAS, The elected and appointed officials of Orange County take pride in <br /> serving the citizens in the County and ensuring that each citizen <br /> knows he or she counts; and <br /> WHEREAS, County government provides a wide range of services including <br /> public safety, community planning, and human services, which have <br /> a direct impact on citizens; and <br /> WHEREAS, Citizens may learn about county services and resources through <br /> outreach efforts provided by County officials. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, We, the Orange County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim <br /> the week of April 19 - 25, 1998 as Orange County Government <br /> Week, and further encourage all citizens to become familiar with <br /> the services provided by Orange County Government. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> C. Habitat for Humanity - "Celebration 2000" Millennium Event <br /> The Board considered adopting a resolution of support of the Celebrate 2000 millennium <br /> event, to be sponsored by Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, Inc. <br /> John Terrell, President of the Board of Directors, made comments about their organization. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Carey to <br /> approve the resolution as stated below: <br /> Resolution <br /> Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, NC "Celebrate 2000" Millennium Event <br /> WHEREAS, on April 7, 1998, Habitat for Humanity presented a proposal to the Orange County Board of <br /> Commissioners for a community-wide Millennium Celebration focusing on the construction of eleven (11) <br /> affordable homes in its Rogers Road Millennium Subdivision; and <br /> WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity intends to create eleven ( 11 ) homeownership opportunities for <br /> low-income households; and <br /> WHEREAS, Habitat intends to spearhead a celebration that includes the participation of the broadest <br /> possible cross-section of the Orange County community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of new or substantially rehabilitated housing units that are affordable to <br /> families earning below 60% of the area median income is a stated priority in the 1995-2000 Orange <br /> County Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development Programs; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of Commissioners that Board <br /> endorses Habitat for Humanity's construction of eleven (11) affordable homes through a community-wide <br /> Millennium Celebration. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> d.
