Current Future Land Use Map Areas A, B, <br />C, T, only Mebane ETJ (METJ) <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Craig Benedict, Planning Director, 245-2592 <br />PURPOSE: To receive a report on upcoming community outreach in the Buckhorn-Mebane <br />Phase II Utilities area. <br />BACKGROUND: Orange County has been evaluating the land use growth potential of the 1- <br />85/1-40 interstate corridor since the early 1990's. In 1994 Orange County rezoned over 1,000 <br />acres from Rural Residential (R-1) to Economic Development (ED) with specialized design <br />standards (i.e. Design Manual). Further, its review of these areas in the Efland-Buckhorn- <br />Mebane Corridor through small area planning efforts have culminated in recommendations and <br />implementation actions between 2005 and 2010. <br />Specifically: <br />• Watershed Boundary amendments near Seven Mile Creek <br />• Water and Sewer Management Planning & Boundary Agreement (WASMPBA) <br />amendments near Hillsborough and Mebane <br />• Infrastructure Master Planning in the Buckhorn Economic Development Zones -January <br />2010 <br />• Funding for Utility Infrastructure Design in Buckhorn-Mebane Economic Development <br />areas in 2010-2011 budget <br />• Ongoing collaboration with the City of Mebane <br />Departments involved: <br />• Planning & Inspections <br />• Manager's Office <br />• Economic Development <br />All of the above actions have been preparing the economic development growth corridor for <br />change. In anticipation of this and acknowledging that these actions have been over an <br />extended period, staff will be pursuing public outreach to affected areas.
