7 <br />2. Continued the refrigerator magnet campaign promoting the Chatham-Orange Community <br />Resource Connections (CRC) initiative reinforcing the Orange County Aging Helpline's 968-2087 <br />as one number to call for information and assistance. <br />Recommendations for 2011 <br />1. Hold the third annual Resource Connections Fair on March 23 at the University Mall in Chapel <br />Hill. <br />2. Expand the Chatham-Orange CRC website to contain educational information about aging <br />issues. It will also enable consumers to find information from multiple agencies through a system <br />of links. <br />Ob'tective A-2: Improve access to printed and website information to older persons, <br />families and service providers. <br />Lead Organization (s): Department on Aging-PAC with County Information Technologies <br />Accomplishments: 2010: <br />1. Distributed the updated Community Resource Guide using private funding in May. <br />2. Uploaded the Community Resource Guide to the Orange County website in December. <br />3. Expanded the number of distribution sites throughout Orange County for the Senior Times that <br />can no longer be mailed to individual homes due to budget cutbacks. <br />4. Developed and implemented the Introduction to Screen Reader Software class with the <br />Orange County Disability Awareness Council, United Way, Senior Net and the Dept of Health and <br />Human Services for persons with low vision. <br />Recommendations for 2011: <br />1. Include an evaluation component in the Senior Times and Resource FairlGuide that asks users <br />and providers if the information met their expectations. <br />2. Explore the possibility of a survey to measure the effectiveness of on-line vs. printed <br />resources. <br />3. Offer senior service agencies and businesses the opportunity to promote their organizations by <br />placing promotional materials in designated brochure racks at each senior center. The annual <br />rental fee will support the Resource Fair and the Resource Guide update. <br />4. Develop format for written instruction for course for persons with low vision that could <br />potentially be shared nationally through Senior Net. <br />Goal B: Housing/Shelter: Promote an adequate supply of safe, affordable, and suitable <br />housing options for older residents to age in place. <br />Objective B-1: Expand assistance in the retrofitting, repair and maintenance of <br />existing older adult homes. <br />Lead Organization (s): Department on Aging with County Housing and Community <br />Development <br />4 <br />
