County Commissioners: Boards and Commissions -Annual Summaries
Chair Pelissier said that these are summaries and work plans for their boards and
commissions. She said that she would like for the County Commissioners to consider writing
a letter to each board thanking them and acknowledging the positive work they have done
for the County. She said that the work plans are there for the County Commissioners to
review and they are in line with the Board of County Commissioners' priorities.
Commissioner Hemminger said that she liked the Quick Reports and she liked
reading these summaries.
Commissioner Jacobs said that it would be helpful to have had department heads
here to respond to questions.
Chair Pelissier said that she has some questions about the state mandated boards
because they are not advisory boards. She is not sure how the County Commissioners
should be responding to these boards and maybe it is just a matter of accepting their reports
since the County Commissioners meet with them annually.
Commissioner Foushee made reference to the Social Services Board and said that
the Board of County Commissioners has a relationship with these boards because of
funding. In some cases, the BOCC has some control because of the budget.
Commissioner Yuhasz said that the goal was to have less departmental staff
involvement and then speak to the chairs instead of staff. He thinks that these kinds of
boards need to be treated a little differently.
Commissioner Gordon said that she appreciated the reports, but she thought the
Board was going to be able to give feedback tonight.
Commissioner Jacobs said that he is comfortable with having the chairs to come
represent their boards but there has sporadically been an annual meeting with board chairs
