Scattered Site Housing <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Rehabilitation Program <br />Hillsborough 732 -8181 <br />Grant Project Ordinance <br />Chapel Hill 968 -4501 <br />Durham 688 -7331 <br />Mebane 336- 227 -2031 <br />PURPOSE: To approve budget and grant project ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2004- <br />05. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Board of Elections <br />1. The Board of Elections has received notification from the North Carolina State Board of <br />Elections of receipt of Help America Vote Act (HAVA) Title 1 grant funds totaling $9,328.50. <br />These funds will be used to: <br />(1) Make all polling places accessible to voters with the full range disabilities (e.g., <br />impairments involving visual, hearing, mobility, dexterity, or elderly) by establishing or <br />improving parking, paths of travel, door hardware, entrances, exits, and voting areas <br />through the use of varied accessibility tools (e.g., ramps, handrails, magnifying <br />lenses, devices to alert curbside voters). <br />(2) Provide the same opportunity for access and participation for individuals with the full <br />range of disabilities (e.g., privacy and independence) by implementing solutions that <br />will create equal service and improved sensitivity. <br />These improved provisions of accessibility will be in place by the November 2004 General <br />Election. This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these grant funds. (See <br />Attachment 1, column #1) <br />
