the County Commissioners send a message that we are committed to recycling and ask that the Chamber <br />follow our lead. John Link will draft a letter to be sent to the Hillsborough Chamber of Commerce. <br />Commissioner Brown asked for a report from OWASA (County representatives on the OWASA Board) <br />about the negotiations with Chatham County and the reservoir study for Cane Creek - recommendations from <br />the study that was done on Cane Creek. She also asked that the Health Department clarify their role <br />whenever there are street festivals where they serve food. <br />Commissioner Brown asked that John Link come back in September with a list of school issues. <br />These could include facilities construction coordinator, high school standards, ground rules for operation and <br />capital needs expenditures, etc. John Link said that he will come back at the August 4 meeting with this <br />information. <br />Chair Crowther is preparing a list of Orange County sites for a visit from UNC Chancellor Hooker. the <br />visit will depend on the time he has for this visit. He will let the Commissioners know the date of this visit. <br />4. COUNTY MANAGER'S REPORT <br />John Link shared with the Board a letter he received today about the Distinguished Budget <br />Presentation award. He expressed his appreciation to Budget Director Sally Kost and her staff for their <br />dedication and hard work. It is with great regret that Sally is leaving her position after seven years on July 18. <br />He thanked Sally for her skill, dedication and very high work ethics and asked that the County <br />Commissioners join him in wishing her the best for the future. <br />5. RESOLUTIONSIPROCLAMATIONS <br />A. PROCLAMATION FOR STAND FOR HEALTHY CHILDREN DAY <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Carey, seconded by Commissioner Gordon to approve the <br />resolution as stated below: <br />P R O C L A M A T I O N <br />STAND FOR HEALTHY CHILDREN DAY <br />WHEREAS, on June 1, 1997, Americans from all backgrounds come together in their communities <br />throughout the country to Take a Stand for Healthy Children and renew their community's commitment to <br />improving the lives of children; and <br />WHEREAS, on Stand for Healthy Children Day and beyond, citizens, families, religious congregations, <br />schools, community organizations, businesses and political and cultural groups join together as a local and <br />national community to recognize the health needs of our children and rededicate ourselves to addressing <br />them; and <br />WHEREAS, caring for the health of our children must be a top priority for our families, our communities and <br />our nation; and <br />WHEREAS, this commitment must begin at the local level, where children and families live and work, and <br />have the potential to thrive, and where all citizens working together can make a difference in our children's <br />lives. <br />NOW THEREFORE DO I, William Crowther, chair of the Board of County Commissioners of Orange County, <br />North Carolina, do proclaim June 1, 1997 <br />STAND FOR HEALTHY CHILDREN DAY
