THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF CONAUSSIONERS <br />NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION WEEK <br />V41IEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and <br />maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and <br />WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation, both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all <br />walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds; and <br />WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to <br />preserve the tangible aspects of the heritage that has shaped us as a people, and <br />WHEREAS, "Preservation Begins at Home" is the theme for National Historic Preservation Week 1997, cosponsored by the Orange <br />County Historic Preservation Commission and the National Trust for Historic Preservation: <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim <br />May 11-17, 1997, as National Historic Preservation Week <br />and calls upon the people of Orange County to join their fellow citizens across the United States in recognizing and <br />participating in this special observance. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />E. RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR NORMA B. WHITE <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Carey, to approve the <br />resolution of appreciation as stated below: <br />RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION <br />for <br />NORMA B. WHITE <br />WHEREAS, Norma B. White was appointed as a charter member of the Orange County Historic Preservation <br />Commission on May 21,1991; and <br />WHEREAS, Norma led the Historic Preservation Commission as its Chair and Vice Chair for three years <br />; and <br />WHEREAS, she faithfully served her fellow citizens of Orange County on this volunteer commission which laid <br />the foundation for the County's program of preserving its historic and archaeological resources; and <br />WHEREAS, her knowledge and experience in landscape architecture consistently guided the Historic <br />Preservation Commission in their efforts; <br />THEREFORE, the members of the Orange Counter Board of Commissioners do hereby thank Norma B. <br />White, upon her retirement from the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission, for <br />the service she performed on their behalf. <br />ADOPTED this the 5th day of May, 1997. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />F.
