A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING A JOINT PUBLIC HEARING OF THE <br />GOVERNING BOARDS OF CARRBORO, CHAPEL HILL, HILLSBOROUGH <br />AND ORANGE COUNTY ON INTEGRATED SOLID WASTE PLANNING <br />WHEREAS, the Landfill Owners Group has adopted a schedule for development of the integrated solid <br />waste plan that includes a public hearing on the plan, and <br />WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina General Statute 130A-309.09A(b) requires that each local <br />government hold an advertised public meeting as a minimum requirement for public participation in <br />development of the required solid waste plan, and <br />WHEREAS, the Landfill Owners Group believes that a single public hearing at which all elected members of <br />all governments of the owners group are present could be more effective in communicating citizens' requests <br />than a series of separate proceedings by each government, and <br />WHEREAS, the members of the local governments have not yet given full consideration to the elements of <br />the integrated solid waste plan. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Orange County Board of Commissioners that they will host a <br />public hearing, along with other local governments that adopt similar resolutions on the integrated solid waste <br />management at 7:00 p.m. on May 22, 1997, at Stanback Middle School. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />C. ORANGE COUNTY SENIOR GAMES <br />Robin Fuqua, Coordinator of the Senior Games, said that this is their tenth year. Last year they <br />had the largest participation of any other County in the state. Durham County and Chatham County are <br />joining them this year. She read the proclamation. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to adopt the <br />resolution as stated below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />Orange County Senior Games <br />WHEREAS, According to recent population figures, there are more than 15,000 persons over 55 years <br />of age in Orange County; and, <br />WHEREAS, Orange County is concerned about the health, fitness, and social well-being of its mature <br />adult population; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County Senior Games provides a special opportunity for mature adults to grow <br />positively in the areas of health, fitness and social well-being; and, <br />WHEREAS, Orange County would like to encourage local businesses and resident support and <br />participation from county residents age 55 and older; <br />NOW, BE IT THEREFORE PROCLAIMED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners declare April <br />21-May 2, 1997 as <br />ORANGE COUNTY SENIOR GAMES EVENTS DAYS <br />and encourage citizens age 55 and over to participate. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />D. COUNTY GOVERNMENT WEEK PROCLAMATION <br />Sharron Siler, Management Analyst, summarized the activities that will take place during the <br />week of April 13-19, 1997. The "official for a day" will be held on Friday, April 18. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to approve <br />the proclamation for County Government Week as stated below: <br />ORANGE COUNTY GOVERNMENT WEEK <br />April 13-19,1997 <br />PROCLAMATION
