Commissioner Brown asked that a letter be sent to the committee studying the Horace Williams tract <br />requesting that the County have representatives on this committee. A letter will be sent making this request. <br />Commissioner Brown asked for an update on the rabies situation in the County. A report will be placed <br />on the April 16 agenda. <br />4. COUNTY MANAGER'S REPORT <br />John Link asked for items to be added to the agenda for the Board's meeting with the Town of <br />Hillsborough scheduled for April 9. Commissioner Halkiotis asked that the proposed reservoir be discussed <br />at that meeting. <br />5. RESOLUTIONS/PROCLAMATIONS <br />A. NATIONAL DRINKING WATER WEEK PROCLAMATION <br />Chair Crowther read the proclamation. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Carey seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis to approve the <br />resolution as stated below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DRINKING WATER WEEK <br />IN <br />ORANGE COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, water is one of the few basic and essential needs of human-kind; and <br />WHEREAS, our health, comfort and standard of living depend upon an abundant <br />supply of safe water; and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange Water and Sewer Authority serving Orange County, North Carolina, has insured <br />that facilities and systems provide our citizens with a safe, dependable quality and quantity of <br />water both now and in the future; and <br />WHEREAS, dedicated men and women have made significant contributions developing, operating and <br />maintaining these systems; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim the fifth through the <br />eleventh of May, nineteen hundred and ninety-seven as <br />DRINKING WA TER WEEK <br />in Orange County and urge all citizens to recognize the contributions and service of Orange <br />Water and Sewer Authority Board members and staff to our community. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />B. ESTABLISHMENT OF JOINT PUBLIC HEARING ON INTEGRATED SOLID WASTE <br />MANAGEMENT PLAN <br />John Link stated that the Landfill Owners Group has adopted a schedule for reviewing and <br />implementing an integrated solid waste management plan for Orange County and the Towns of Carrboro, <br />Chapel Hill , and Hillsborough. All local governments are required by the State to have an adopted solid <br />waste plan in place by July 1, 1997. On February 19, 1997, the LOG adopted a resolution requesting that <br />each of the four governing boards schedule a public hearing for 7:00 p.m. on May 22, 1997 at Stanback <br />Middle School. <br />Chair Crowther noted that the County Commissioners need to discuss the various options for solid <br />waste management and submit that as part of the integrated plan. <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Carey to adopt <br />the resolution as stated below:
