Year -To -Date Budget <br />Summary <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Clarence Grier, (919) 245 -2453 <br />PURPOSE: To approve budget, grant, and capital project ordinance amendments for fiscal year <br />2010 -11. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Department on Aging <br />1. The Department on Aging has received the following additional funds: <br />• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program — receipt of $12,071 to provide <br />free tax services for low- to moderate - income citizens who cannot prepare their own <br />tax returns. The United Way of the Greater Triangle, through the Orange County <br />Women's Center, has provided $4,000 for a nonpermanent, VITA coordinator; the <br />federal government has provided $8,071 for enhancements to existing services (e.g. <br />increased seasonal personnel, mileage reimbursement, additional program supplies, <br />volunteer appreciation event, and technology purchases). <br />• Eldercare Community Outreach Program funds — receipt of $11,000 in North <br />Carolina Division of Aging and Adult Services pass through funds from the Chatham <br />County Council on Aging to purchase supplies and incentives for the Medicare <br />Improvements for Patients and Providers Act. Chatham County will reimburse the <br />Orange County Department on Aging for expenses incurred in community outreach <br />programs held at public locations, such as Wal -Mart and University Mall. <br />This budget amendment provides for the receipt of these funds for the above stated <br />purposes. (See Attachment 1, Column 1) <br />
