The Board received a report regarding programming for the Skill Development Center. A <br />network of training and employment services will be available at the Skill Development Center for all county <br />residents. Potential clients include the unemployed, underemployed, Work First Family Assistance <br />individuals, High School Graduates, functionally illiterate persons and downsized professionals with years of <br />work experience. <br />Commissioner Gordon stated that she would like for this center to provide something truly new <br />and questioned why the Employment Security Commission would be located in this building. She was told <br />that ESC would be offering job placement services including career counseling and preparation to go into the <br />work force. One of the outcomes they hope to achieve is placement. <br />Commissioner Halkiotis endorsed the plan saying he feels these plans are on target. <br />Social Services Director Marti Pryor-Cook emphasized that this facility is expected to be a <br />center for all training for all citizens who need it in this county. Albert Kittrell will be the person responsible to <br />be sure that everything happens that must happen. Barbara Baker from Durham Technical College will be in <br />this building to be sure everything is running the way it is supposed to and outcomes are pursued and <br />achieved. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />Since the 10:30 p.m. adjournment time had been reached and without a unanimous vote to extend <br />the meeting, Chair Carey adjourned the meeting. <br />D. MINUTES - NONE <br />XIII. CLOSED SESSION - To consult with the County Attorney pursuant to N.C. Gen. Stat. Section 143- <br />318.11(a) (3) in the matters of Nello Teer v. Orange County et al. <br />This item was postponed to a future meeting. <br />XIV. ADJOURNMENT <br />This meeting was adjourned at 10:30 as stated above.
