12 <br />43)** Support the instituting of a national criminal record <br />check for long-term care employees (all persons involved <br />in direct patient care) since the current requirement <br />for state criminal record checks is not adequate for a <br />mobile society where many in the work force come from <br />out of state. The current suspension of the state's <br />statutory requirement for a national criminal records <br />check must be lifted, not continued again; <br />44)** Support statutory clarification on the definition of <br />special care locked units (units intended to meet <br />certain requirements in order to provide special care <br />for persons with Alzheimer's disease or related <br />disorders; not simply units with a door that locks). <br />Legislative requirements as outlined in Senate Bill 10 <br />(House Bill 60) have been circumvented through <br />interpretation. Locked units must be considered special <br />care by definition or the. rights of the residents in <br />those units are violated; <br />45)** Support the establishment of a study commission to <br />examine the guardianship laws in our state and to <br />recommend changes for strengthening this system. <br />(Senate Bill 179 and House Bill 246, introduced in the <br />2001 session, called for the establishment of a Study <br />12 <br />
