The subdivision is located <br /> south of the NC54 and US15/501 intersection in the Town of Chapel Hill's jurisdiction. <br /> This is the second road addition petition for the Beechridge Subdivision. On December 6, <br /> 2010 the Board of County Commissioners approved a petition for Copper Beech Court — a <br /> 0.17-mile road located in the subdivision. <br /> 2. Cedar Pointe (Cedar Pointe Drive and Sam Miller Drive); Attachment 2a — map <br /> The BOCC approved Cedar Pointe Subdivision through the major subdivision process on <br /> June 16, 1998 with Cedar Pointe Drive and Sam Miller Drive designated as public roads. <br /> Lot A of the subdivision is subject to future road extension to allow connectivity and is <br /> dedicated as a public road right-of-way. The dedication was recorded in a deed dated <br /> March 26, 1998 (Attachment 2c). <br /> The property owners of properties adjacent to Cedar Pointe Drive and Sam Miller Drive <br /> have petitioned the North Carolina Department of Transportation to accept maintenance <br /> responsibilities for the subdivision roads. The subdivision roads provide access for 15 <br /> homes: Cedar Pointe Drive — 9 homes and Sam Miller Drive — 6 homes. Cedar Pointe <br /> Subdivision is located north of US 70. <br /> 3. Meadow Ridge (Spring House Lane and Woodlot Ridge); Attachment 3a - map <br /> The petition for addition includes two roads: Spring House Lane and Woodlot Ridge. Spring <br /> House Lane is a 0.25 miles paved road that provides access to five households. Woodlot <br /> Ridge is a 0.1-mile long, paved road. It also provides access to five households. <br /> The BOCC approved Meadow Ridge Subdivision through the major subdivision process on <br /> May 13, 1996 with Spring House Lane and Woodlot Ridge designated as public roads. The <br /> subdivision is located in the Chapel Hill Township (unincorporated Orange County), west of <br /> 1-40. <br /> Conclusion <br /> All above-referenced applications meet the criteria endorsed by the BOCC for <br /> recommending acceptance of a public road into the State Maintained System for roads <br /> approved through the major subdivision process. <br /> NCDOT has investigated these requests (please refer to Attachments 1 b, 2b and 3b) and <br /> has submitted petitions to the BOCC for its review and recommendation. In accordance <br /> with North Carolina General Statute §136-62% the Board is required to make a <br /> recommendation regarding the petitions to the North Carolina Board of Transportation <br /> (NCBOT) before the NCDOT can consider the petitions. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no direct financial impact to the County associated with this <br /> item. NCDOT will incur additional maintenance responsibilities and costs. <br /> ` North Carolina General Statute§136-62 directs that"The citizens of the State shall have the right to <br /> present petitions to the board of county commissioners, and through the board to the Department of <br /> Transportation, concerning additions to the system and improvement of roads. The board of county <br /> commissioners shall receive such petitions, forwarding them on to the Board of Transportation with their <br /> recommendations." <br />
