Solid Waste Plan (approved by Carrboro and Chapel Hill to date). <br />• Evaluation of county -wide convenience center development and <br />operations leading to Work Group recommendation. <br />• Resolutions to BOCC regarding: <br />o Recycling of Cooking Oil and Lights Containing Mercury (March <br />2010) <br />o Imperative that Recycling Coordinator Position be Filled (April <br />2010) <br />• Hosted Kara Millonzi (UNC School of Government) discussion on Public <br />Solid Waste Authorities. <br />• Initiated Review of Current Interlocal Agreement with respect to whether <br />or not the need for such an agreement still exists, and what elements <br />should be in any new agreement (in response to BOCC Request); <br />recommendation pending. <br />• Continued evaluations of alternatives to present and new -term plans for <br />solid waste disposal methods for Orange County (in response to BOCC <br />Request); process recommendation pending. <br />• Continued guidance to BOCC and Orange County Solid Waste <br />Management Staff as requested. <br />List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored <br />Annually. <br />• SWAB meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month (ad hoc <br />sub - committees meet as needed) to consider matters /issues brought <br />before it by BOCC; individual governments ( Carrboro, Chapel Hill, <br />Hillsborough), and Solid Waste Staff. <br />• There are no specific events or functions sponsored annually. <br />Describe this board /commission's activities /accomplishments in carrying <br />out BOCC goal(s) /priorities, if applicable. <br />SWAB responds to matters brought to it from BOCC and as noted above, <br />these have included: <br />• development (in conjunction with the Work Group) of the Solid <br />Waste Plan (to be submitted to NCDHENR once approved by <br />Towns' and County's elected officials), <br />• review of the Interlocal Agreement, <br />• evaluation of county -wide solid waste convenience center <br />operations, and <br />• various aspects of alternative means to handle the solid waste <br />disposal issues for Orange County. <br />
