Solid Waste Plan (approved by Carrboro and Chapel Hill to date). • Evaluation of county -wide convenience center development and operations leading to Work Group recommendation. • Resolutions to BOCC regarding: o Recycling of Cooking Oil and Lights Containing Mercury (March 2010) o Imperative that Recycling Coordinator Position be Filled (April 2010) • Hosted Kara Millonzi (UNC School of Government) discussion on Public Solid Waste Authorities. • Initiated Review of Current Interlocal Agreement with respect to whether or not the need for such an agreement still exists, and what elements should be in any new agreement (in response to BOCC Request); recommendation pending. • Continued evaluations of alternatives to present and new -term plans for solid waste disposal methods for Orange County (in response to BOCC Request); process recommendation pending. • Continued guidance to BOCC and Orange County Solid Waste Management Staff as requested. List of Specific Tasks, Events, or Functions Performed or Sponsored Annually. • SWAB meets monthly on the second Wednesday of the month (ad hoc sub - committees meet as needed) to consider matters /issues brought before it by BOCC; individual governments ( Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough), and Solid Waste Staff. • There are no specific events or functions sponsored annually. Describe this board /commission's activities /accomplishments in carrying out BOCC goal(s) /priorities, if applicable. SWAB responds to matters brought to it from BOCC and as noted above, these have included: • development (in conjunction with the Work Group) of the Solid Waste Plan (to be submitted to NCDHENR once approved by Towns' and County's elected officials), • review of the Interlocal Agreement, • evaluation of county -wide solid waste convenience center operations, and • various aspects of alternative means to handle the solid waste disposal issues for Orange County.
