ORANGE COUNTY ADVISORY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS 190, <br />INPUT FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' ANNUAL PLANNING RETREAT <br />The Board of Commissioners welcomes input from various advisory boards and commissions in <br />preparation for its annual planning retreat. Please complete the following information, limited to <br />the front and back of this form. Other background materials may be provided as a supplement <br />to, but not as a substitute for, this form. <br />Board /Commission Name: Parks and Recreation Council <br />Person to address the BOCC at Retreat (if requested by BOCC) and contact information: <br />Chuck Hobgood (chuck.hobgood ncsports.org) and Denise Dickinson (ddickinson(,@_rti.org) <br />Primary County Staff Contact: Lori Taft, Parks and Recreation Director <br />How many times per month does this board /commission meet, including any special <br />meetings and sub- committee meetings? <br />From 1 -6 depending on Committee Schedule <br />Brief Statement of Board /Commission's Assigned Charge and Responsibilities. <br />• To advocate for needed recreation programs and facilities. <br />• To promote recreation and assist agencies in their recreational interests and needs. <br />• To advise staff and suggest policies to the Department, the Manager and the Board of County <br />Commissioners. <br />• To serve as liaison between the Department, the Manager, the Board of County Commissioners <br />and the citizens of Orange County. <br />• To advise and make recommendations on: supervised recreation, to suggest use and <br />improvements to properties for recreational use, and for construction, equipping and staffing <br />facilities. <br />• To advise on the acquisition of lands and structures for parks and public open space. <br />• To advise on the acceptance of grants or donations for parks, public open space and recreation. <br />• To advise in regard to construction, equipping, operation, and maintenance of parks, <br />playgrounds, recreation centers and all buildings and structures necessary or useful to <br />department function, and advise in regard to other recreation facilities which are owned or <br />controlled by the County and leased or loaned to the County. <br />• To take the necessary steps to create a long -range master plan for the proper and adequate <br />acquisition of recreation areas, and the development of recreation facilities, structures and <br />programs for the present and future needs of all citizens of the County. <br />What are your Board /Commission's most important accomplishments? <br />• Members of the Council have assisted and advised in the Master Planning processes for: Little <br />River Regional Park, Efland Cheeks Community Park (Phase 2), Twin Creeks (Moniese Nomp) <br />Park, Blackwood Farm Park, Cedar Grove Park, Fairview Park and Hollow Rock Access Area. <br />• Members of the Council have assisted in the operation of numerous special events. <br />• Members of the Council have served on the Inter - governmental Parks Work Group, the <br />Sportsplex Advisory Council and the New Hope Creek Corridor Advisory Council. <br />• The Council was an Element Lead Advisory Board for the 2030 Comprehensive Plan. <br />• The Council makes recommendations for the biennial Lands Legacy Action Plan. <br />
