Z 0 <br />ORANGE COUNTY ADVISORY BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br />INPUT FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' ANNUAL PLANNING RETREAT <br />The Board of Commissioners welcomes input from various advisory boards and <br />commissions in preparation for its annual planning retreat. Please complete the <br />following information, limited to the front and back of this form. Other <br />background materials may be provided as a supplement to, but not as a <br />substitute for, this form. <br />Board /Commission Name: <br />Advisory Board on Aging <br />Person to address the BOCC at Retreat (if requested by BOCC) and contact <br />information: <br />Heather Altman, Advisory Board Chair <br />109 Sunset Ridge Lane <br />Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />haltman @carolwoods.org <br />Primary County Staff Contact: <br />Janice Tyler, Interim Department on Aging Director <br />How many times per month does this board /commission meet, including <br />any special meetings and sub - committee meetings? <br />The Advisory Board on Aging meets monthly. <br />Brief Statement of Board /Commission's Assigned Charge and <br />Responsibilities. <br />This board suggests policy and makes recommendations to the Board of <br />Commissioners and the Department on Aging while acting as the liaison between <br />the older citizens of the County and the County government. It is charged with <br />promoting needed services, programs and funding that impacts the older <br />citizens. <br />What are your Board /Commission's most important accomplishments? <br />• Sponsorship of the 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Advisory Board <br />and the Department on Aging <br />• Support of the many improvements to the Department's Senior Lunch <br />Program, such as `going green' and securing a local caterer who utilizes <br />fresh ingredients in meal preparation <br />• Support of the recommendation to rename the Senior Care Adult Day <br />Health Program in memory of Florence Gray Soltys <br />• Recipient of the Ernest Messer Award that the NC Division of Aging and <br />Adult Services Awards presents each year to individuals or organizations <br />that make a significant difference in the quality of life for older adults in <br />North Carolina. <br />
