Service conferences with registration, hotel bookings, restaurant reservations. Generate <br />$500,000 in free travel press on Orange County in publications from the New York Times, LA <br />Times, Japanese travel shows, Southern Living, Our State and more. <br />Creates and manage on -line program including web, mobile, social media and hotel booking <br />sites. <br />Describe this board /commission's activities /accomplishments in carrying out BOCC <br />goal(s) /priorities, if applicable. <br />The visitor's bureau uses the occupancy tax to grow tourism, generating more revenues, jobs <br />and taxes. The visitor's bureau is a positive influence on the county commissioner's economic <br />development goals. It is a clean industry. Money made in one county is left in Orange County. <br />When tourists visit they require no real infrastructure but spend, on average, 3 days per visit and <br />leave $2500 per visit. They often come back, invest in business and the county and contribute <br />to quality of life. <br />If your board /commission played the role of an Element Lead Advisory Board involved in <br />the 2030 Comprehensive Plan preparation process, please indicate your board's <br />activities /accomplishments as they may relate to the Comprehensive Plan's goals or <br />objectives. <br />(The Element Lead Advisory Boards include: Planning Board, EDC, OUTBoard, and <br />Commission for the Environment, Historic Preservation Commission, Agriculture Preservation <br />Board, Affordable Housing Board, Recreation and Parks Advisory Council) <br />N/A <br />Identify any activities this board /commission expects to carry out in 2011 as they relate <br />to established BOCC goals and priorities. <br />If applicable, is there a fiscal impact (i.e., funding, staff time, and other resources) <br />associated with these proposed activities (please list). <br />Grow jobs <br />Grow tax revenues from tourists <br />Increase arts programming <br />Continue to help fill hotel rooms and contribute to business development <br />Support feasibility study for Hillsborough hotel <br />Support trolley service for Chapel Hill /Carrboro arts programming <br />Build marketing campaign around Orange County's evening economies (music, festivals) Focus <br />on green hotels, sustainability and clean industry that tourism represents Launch Orange <br />County marketing campaign with county manager in The Herald Focus on agri - tourism <br />What are the concerns or emerging issues your board has identified for the upcoming <br />year that it plans to address, or wishes to bring to the Commissioners' attention? <br />We hope for continued support <br />The visitor's bureau will grow arts commission programming through on -line and video <br />presence. <br />The visitor's bureau will work with the private sector on a Hillsborough hotel (perhaps an <br />expanded, refurbished B &B) and might ask for the BOCC's support. <br />
