Farm Plan Action Step 2a):
Work with the Economic Development Commission and agricultural agency boards to
develop a profile of the types of agricultural ventures that will enhance Orange County.
Farm Plan Action Step 3a):
Expand existing programs that teach farming, such as the PLANT incubator at the Breeze
Farm.
Farm Plan Action Step 3c):
Begin a dialogue with successful farmers regarding a future apprentice program.
Farm Plan Action Step 5a):
Ask local governments to start buying locally grown and produced products for government
functions where food is provided.
What are the concerns or emerging issues your board has identified for the upcoming
year that it plans to address, or wishes to bring to the Commissioners' attention?
• The Agricultural Preservation Board should focus on saving operating farms not just
farmland.
• The APB should continue to work with the Animal Services Advisory Board to ensure
that the Animal Control Ordinance is farmer friendly.
• As we work to encourage new farmers (including new to farming and new the area) the
APB may wish to develop a "Farmer Welcome Kit," similar to something a visitors
bureau would send out to people moving to the area.
• The APB should learn more about the new present use valuation taxation program for
wildlife conservation to determine if it can help local farmers and, if so, help educate
farmers about the new program.
• The APB should continue to research and inform local farmers of green business
opportunities.
APB Reporting Form 2010
-4-
