<br />>> >S-~aoS <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS ~ b <br />RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE TOWN OF CARRBORO <br />TO PARTNER FIFTY/FIFTY FINANCIALLY WITH THE HYCONEECHEE <br />REIGONAL LIBRARY SYSTEM AND COUNTY <br />IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF AFREE-STANDING BRANCH LIBRARY <br />IN ITS DOWNTOWN AREA <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of Orange County, North Carolina is <br />dedicated to providing comprehensive library services to all County residents, in both <br />urban and rural areas; and <br />WHEREAS, Orange County recognizes and values the opportunity to collaborate with <br />the Town of Carrboro toward the development of branch library services as desired <br />within its corporate limits to enhance the library facilities, services and opportunities <br />available in Carrboro; and <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Carrboro along with the County recognizes the vital role that <br />libraries play in the lives of our residents and our communities, providing resources for <br />lifelong learning, an outlet for recreational reading, a bridge across the digital divide, a <br />slate of cultural programs for all ages, and a community center for all to use; and <br />WHEREAS, the Library Services Task Force, with the active participation of Carrboro <br />elected officials, recommended the siting of a branch library in downtown Carrboro <br />where it would be accessible to transit and other amenities; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Commissioners of Orange <br />County, North Carolina, does hereby call upon the Town of Carrboro to affirm its <br />commitment to afree-standing branch library in its midst by agreeing to establish a 50/50 <br />financial partnership with the County to provide the capital funding for the <br />implementation of this important public purpose. <br />This is the 15th day of November, 2005. <br />Mo3'es Carey, Jr., Chair <br />Orange County Board of <br />
