Resolution # 2010-092-adopted 12/6/2010 <br />%c <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE THREE-YEAR SOLID WASTE <br />MANAGEMENT PLAN UPDATE TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE <br />STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />WHEREAS North Carolina statutorily requires each County and Municipality to update <br />its ten year solid waste plan every three years; and <br />WHEREAS Orange County and its municipalities have historically cooperated closely on <br />solid waste management including plan development; and <br />WHEREAS the plan to be adopted reaffirms the goal of 61 % waste reduction per capita <br />originally established in 1997 and reaffirmed in 2000, 2003 and 2008 (for 2006 <br />submittal); and <br />WHEREAS the Board of Orange County Commissioners has created a representative <br />solid waste management plan work group that has worked for five years on the <br />comprehensive, integrated long term plan; and <br />WHEREAS Plan development has included representatives from all three Towns and the <br />Towns' interests have thereby been represented in Plan development; and <br />WHEREAS, the Towns and the public have reviewed and considered the Plan and <br />offered recommendations and revisions to be incorporated into the Plan document to be <br />submitted to the State for review; and <br />WHEREAS, this Plan submittal is a living document and recognizes that the County's <br />overall integrated solid waste management Plan will continue to evolve; and <br />WHEREAS the current submittal is about 15 months overdue from the original Plan <br />update due date of June 30, 2009; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />adopts this Three Year Solid Waste Management Plan update on behalf of the <br />municipalities of Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Hillsborough and itself. <br />This is the 6th day of December, 2010. <br />Bernadette Pelissier, Chair <br />
