<br />The Hoard met et 10:00 o'clook A. I:t., in the Commie sinners Room
<br />at the Court Hous a: Preeent, Collier Cobb, Jr,, Chairman, Ben F.
<br />9711son and Hubert G. Laws, Commissioners.
<br />131nutee of the 1as7"regular end adaourned meetings were reed and
<br />approved.
<br />[r. Dan W. Clark appeared before the Board with reference to get-
<br />ting a road scraped in the Fairfield Church community,
<br />L;Ses Woodward Hyers, Home Demonstration Agent, appeared before the
<br />Board and submitted a narrative report of the work done through her
<br />office for the month of July, 1945. She also ores anted a report oP the
<br />Curt lierhet sales for the same period, showing a total sales oP 53,620.02.
<br />Bill of Charlie Childers for 21 chickens killed 'oy doge, was approved
<br />for 510.00.
<br />Upon motion, it is hereby ordered that Nanny Neville be paid $5,00
<br />for one 5 weeks old calf kili.ed by dogs.
<br />Upon motion, the application-oYffi AuYusJemesHarFington for aid to
<br />the blind, was approved for .$17.00 par month.
<br />The apnllcation oP Mrs. Rubp H. Davis for license to retail beer in
<br />Orange County, was upon motion, approved.
<br />In comollanoe With order oP July meeting, the Clerk to this Hoard
<br />presented list of tax payers who had paid their 1944 taxes. After care-
<br />fully checlcing these names, xhe Hoard hereby ordsrs the names placed in
<br />Jury Box No. 1.
<br />Upon motion of ComTias loner Lews, end seconded by Com:issioner
<br />Nilson, the following res ol-~t ion was unanimously adopted:
<br />RESOLVED, That mhereae a term oY Court for the trial of civil cases
<br />is scheduled Por Superior Court of Orange County to oonvene on August 27,
<br />1945; and einereee the members of the Bar of Orange County have petitioned
<br />the Board of Comvieeionere oP Orange County to ask for the cancellation
<br />of the said term oP court due to the fact that very few, if any, cases
<br />could be disp need of et said term: end whereas civil term Yor the said
<br />County Se scheduled Por October 1,1945;
<br />210N, THEREFORE, The Hoard of Comn iesionere of Orange County being of
<br />the opinion that it would be to the beet interest of Orange County to call
<br />off and cancel the said term of court which is to convene on August 27,1945,
<br />do resnec tfully ask and petition Ais Excellency, R. Gregg Cherry, Governor
<br />of the State oP North Carolina, for the cancellation of the said term oY
<br />court Por the teas one herelnbefore eet fourth.
<br />Upon motion oS Commissioner Wilson, duly eeconded by Commissioner
<br />Lens, and all. members voting in the aYfirmat ive, the following resolution
<br />levying taxes for the pear 1945-1945 Ss adopted ae follows:
<br />On each poll the sum of 52.00
<br />On each female dog the sum of 2.00
<br />On each male dog the sum of 1.00
<br />For General County Purnoe es the sum of ,15
<br />For Pub11o Health Purposes the eum of .024
<br />For Superior 8ourte and Jail the sum of .027
<br />For General County Debt Service the sum of .138
<br />For School Currant Expense the sum of .05

<br />The above making a county wide total rate oP .98 on the eaoh $100.00
<br />valuation of prop arty.
<br />im addition to the above levies, the maximum amounts of taxes ell owed
<br />to be levied under 6ohedule B of the Revenue Aet of 1939, as amended, are
<br />hereby levied except as to Sill ing stations end automobile deal ere, in
<br />whioh case no tax is levied, With this exception the county flax collector
<br />is hereby authorized and instructed to collect the maximum taxes ae pro-
<br />vided ~ny said State Revenue Act.
