Currently the Orange County Sheriffs Department is <br /> the only public safety agency in Orange County that is not utilizing the VIPER system. <br /> Providing the Sheriffs Department with this communications equipment will greatly increase <br /> interoperability within the County. Adding the Sheriffs Department to the VIPER system <br /> requires the purchase of one-hundred mobile radios and seventy-five portable radios. <br /> Local governments can cooperatively purchase items through term contracts that are bid <br /> through North Carolina Purchase and Contract. Term contracts such as this contract (725G) <br /> will allow Orange County to take advantage of quantity discounts. Wireless Communications of <br /> Cary, North Carolina is the authorized local sales agent for Motorola and will handle fulfilling this <br /> order. The total cost of the radios will be $473,436.25. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The total amount of this expenditure is $473,436.25. The County will <br /> obtain third party financing for the purchase of the radios. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board: <br />
