FIREWORKS PERMIT FOR THE ARTSCENTER <br />Attorney Geof Gledhill stated that the five criteria the Board has <br />ased in the past includes (1) a letter describing what will be done, (2) being <br />informed of. who will be responsible for the pyrotechnics, (3) evidence of the <br />certification of the qualifications of the pyrotechnician, (4) certificate of <br />insurance to verify that there is insurance coverage for the event and .(5) <br />evidence that the public safety issues have been addressed. The fire chief <br />of Carrboro has indicated that they will be given a demonstration before the <br />flashpot is actually used. He recommends that if the Board approves this <br />request, that it be approved on the condition that the Carrboro Fire <br />Department is satisfied that the fleshpots are safe to use. <br />After a brief discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Willhoit, <br />seconded by Commissioner Insko to approve the issuance of a fireworks permit <br />contingent upon (1) approval by the Fire Chief of the Town of Carrboro, and <br />(2) negotiation of fire protection as determined by the Fire Chief and (3) <br />submission of adequate insurance protection to the County. <br />VOTE: AYES, 2; NOS, 2 (Commissioners Gordon and Halkiotis) <br />MOTION FAILED <br />IX. MINUTES <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner <br />Insko to approve the minutes for September 21 and October 4 as corrected. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner <br />Insko to approve the minutes for August 4, 1993, September 7, 1993 and <br />September 14, 1993 as presented. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />XIII. EXECUTIVE SESSION - NONE <br />XIV. ADJOURNMENT <br />with no further items to be considered, Vice-Chair Halkiotis adjourned <br />the meeting.
