5
Jeanette Jones
From: Bob Marotto
Sent: Thursday, October 21, 2010 8:48 AM
To: Donna Baker; Jeanette Jones
Cc: Paula Ragan
Subject: Animal Services: Two Appoiintment Recommendatios from the ASAB (and Staff)
Donna and Jeanette,
The Animal Services Advisory Board is unanimously recommending two applicants for
vacant positions on the ASAB with the full support of the Animal Services Staff. These
recommendations are:
Andy Uhl for the Animal Handler position: Mr. Uhl is recommended given his
certification as a canine trainer (police and pet), experience and involvement with
rescue and foster programs.
o~.ph~
Lade Lumpkin for the at large, non-municipal position: Ms. Lumpkin is
recommended on the basis of her commitment to the welfare of the community
and the welfare of the animals, her position as a member of the Human Rights
and Relations Board, her professional experience as an executive, and her love of
animals.
These recommendations are made on the basis of discussion with interested applicants
at the October meeting of the ASAB. All current applicants were invited and six
attended. Those in attendance were Andy Uhl, Melissa Marsh, Lori Shapiro, Lisa
Woolman and Pam Wilson. One other applicant (Suzy Armstrong) was unable to attend
this meeting but expects to be able to attend the November meeting of the ASAB. The
ASAB expressed appreciation to all of the applicants who attended the October
meeting. It was also mentioned that additional vacancies are expected in 2011.
In fhe coming months, the ASAB is planning to make additional recommendations for
the other two vacant positions (at large, and animal welfare representative). The ASAB
elected to wait to make these recommendations until after its November meeting and
staff requested discussion with at least one animal welfare organization.
I trust that this is sufficient to "trigger" BOCC consideration of these recommendations
but please lef me know if you need anything further. Also, please confirm that we have
no new applicants whose applications are not yet posted on the Intranet.
Bob Marotto
Animal Services Director
Orange County Animal Services
919-968-2287
Remember to Vote November 2
Orange County Referendum on
10/21/2010
