ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: November 4, 2010 <br />Action Agenda , <br />Item No. ~- - t <br />SUBJECT: Propose to Accept Offer to Purchase County Property <br />DEPARTMENT: Asset Management & <br />Purchasing Services, County <br />Attorney <br />PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />Resolution <br />Pam Jones, (919) 245-2652 <br />John Roberts, (919) 245-2318 <br />David Cannell, (919) 245-2651 <br />PURPOSE: To consider approving a resolution authorizing the sale of the County property <br />located on Highway 49 (Old ABC Store), Cedar Grove. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Hwy 49-Old ABC Store <br />On September 2, 2010 the Board of Commissioners authorized staff to begin the upset bid <br />procedure on the property located on Highway 49 in Cedar Grove. Pursuant to North Carolina <br />General Statutes the upset bid was advertised for 10 days. No upset bids were received. <br />The County currently has three additional properties offered for sale: 129 East King Street and <br />112 N. Churton Street, Hillsborough; and 1914 New Hope Church Road, Chapel Hill. Future <br />bids, if any, will be presented to the Board at the appropriate time. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: Funds received for the sale of the Old ABC Store property ($3,500) will <br />be distributed based on 40% to the Schools for renovations of older facilities ($1,400) and 60% <br />to a reserve fund established for future development of an Orange County Southwest Branch <br />Library ($2,100). <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends the Board take the following action <br />regarding the Old ABC Store on Highway 49, Cedar Grove: <br />o accept the offer submitted by James T. and Tammy C. Wilson in the amount of <br />$3,500; <br />o approve the attached Resolution and authorize the Chair to sign the resolution as <br />appropriate; and <br />o authorize staff to create the appropriate paperwork for completion of the sale and <br />authorize the Chair to sign. <br />
