Outside Agency Descriptions -continued <br />6 <br />Family Violence Prevention Center $17,000 • <br />The Family Violence Prevention Center seeks to prevent and end family violence through <br />community education and provision of direct services including emergency assistance, case <br />management and court advocacy. <br />Freedom House Recovery Center $24,000 <br />This agency provides extended care and transitional living in order to promote recovery from the <br />disease of addiction. The goal of the Freedom House is to help alcoholics and drug addicts by <br />providing the tools necessary to lead a life of recovery and to become productive members of <br />society. <br />Habitat for Humanity of Orange County $10,000 <br />Habitat for Humanity of Orange County (HHOC) provides decent affordable housing for families <br />earning less than half of the area median income and who live in substandard housing. HHOC <br />constructs simple, well-built homes that are then sold to qualifying families at affordable prices. <br />Historic Hillsborough Commission $7,000 <br />The Commission owns and maintains the Burwell School .located on Churton Street in <br />Hillsborough, which is on the National Register of Historic Buildings. The two-acre site consists <br />of the main house (ca 1821, 1846), a brick classroom building (ca 1837), a rare brick necessary <br />(ca. 1837), and the Carrie Waitte Spurgeon Garden. The site is open to the public year round <br />and there is no charge for tours of the school. <br />' Isborou hand Oran a County $4,000 • <br />Historical Foundation of Hil g g <br />The Orange County Historical Museum, located in Hillsborough, preserves the past and <br />encourages interest in local history through the exhibition of the economic, political, social, and <br />cultural aspects of Orange County's 18th and 19th century history. The Museum is open to the <br />public, free of charge, 6 days per week. <br />Housing for New Hope $20,000 <br />The organization's mission is to encourage and assist homeless people and other persons in <br />crisis to move toward lives marked by increased levels of stability, dignity; hope, and <br />independence. <br />Inter-Faith Council for Social Service (IFC) $36,000 <br />The IFC meets basic needs and helps individuals and families achieve their goals. They provide <br />shelter, food, direct services, advocacy and information to people in need. The IFC <br />accomplishes this through strong partnerships with volunteers, staff and those we serve. They <br />rely on the active involvement of caring individuals, congregations and other community <br />organizations. <br />Joint Orange-Chatham Community Action (JOCCA) $60,000 <br />JOCCA provides services to very low-income families and individuals with the goal of improving <br />their quality of every day life. JOCCA offers the following services (1) nutrition and aging; (2) • <br />self-sufficiency services; (3) job training and employment; (4) community based assistance and <br />teen court for youth offenders; and (5) energy conservation/weatherization and heating <br />assistance. <br />
