As I have relocated employees to this area and regularly hire employees, I am also familiar with the attributes of Chapel that make it a desirable place to live. I also have 4 young children who attend pre-school and elementary school in Chapel Hill these have taught me about yet another facet of life in Chapel Hill. While I am in noway beholden to UNC, my wife is an Associate Professor in the Department of English and Comparative Literature: As a result, I am also familiar with the importance of maintaining an appropriate balance between the needs of the residents of Chapel Hill and the need of the Chapel Hill to facilitate the sensible growth of UNC. Volunteer Experience: I have served as a member and later chair of the HDC in Chapel Hill since 2003. This work volunteer work has been very rewarding. Initially I listened allot. Later, I enjoyed more actively attempting to protect the historic character of Chapel Hill. In addition, once became chair, I enjoyed helping the group to achieve consensus. In general, I am a pragmatist rather than an idealist. I enjoyed helping to focus the commission on the relevant topics so that it could make determinations quickly.
