&g <br /> o�z p- a o ►o -0�3�7 �achm�er,-�- � � <br /> 1 AN ORDINANCE CREATING <br /> 2 THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF <br /> 3 ORANGE COUNTY <br /> 4 <br /> 5 <br /> 6 WFIEREAS, the historic heritage of the State of North Carolina is one of our most <br /> 7 valued and important assets; and <br /> 8 <br /> 9 WHEREAS, the North Carolina General Statutes authorize counties to safeguard the <br /> 10 heritage of the County by preserving any historic sites therein that embody important elements of <br /> 11 its cultural, social, economic,political, archaeological or architectural history and to promote the <br /> 12 use and conservation of such site for the education,pleasure and enrichment of the residents of <br /> 13 the County and State as a whole; and <br /> 14 <br /> 15 WHEREAS, the conservation of historic sites will stabilize and increase the values in <br /> 16 their areas and strengthen the overall economy of the State; and <br /> 17 <br /> 18 WHEREAS, the County Commissioners of Orange County desire to safeguard the <br /> 19 heritage of the Csounty by preserving historic landmarks and historic districts; to enhance the � <br /> 2 0 environmental quality of neighborhoods; to establish and improve property values; and to foster <br /> 21 economic development; and <br /> 22 ' <br /> 2 3 WI3EREAS,the County Commissioners of Orange County do therefore desire to create <br /> 2 4 a commission to be known as the Historic Preservation Commission of Orange County to <br /> 2 5 perform the duties of regulating historic landmarks and historic districts pursuant to NCGS <br /> 2 6 Chapter 160A, Article 19, Part 3C and the provisions of this Oardinance. � <br /> 27 <br /> 2 8 NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNTY COMNIISSIONERS <br /> 2 9 OF ORANGE COUNTY AS FOLLOWS: <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Article 1.Historic Preservation Commission <br /> 32 <br /> 3 3 Section 1.1 Establishment <br /> 34 <br /> 3 5 Under the authority of Chapter 160A, Article 19, Part 3C, of the North Carolina General <br /> 3 6 Statutes, there is hereby established the Orange County Historic Preservation Commission, <br /> 3 7 hereafter referred to as the "Commission", consisting of seven(7)members. Members shall <br /> 3 8 serve without compensation,but they may be reimbursed for incidental expenses incurred in <br /> 3 9 connection with official duties. <br /> 40 <br /> 41 <br /> 4 2 Section 1.2 Qualifications <br /> 43 � <br /> 4 4 Amended <br /> 4 5 6/7/1993 <br /> 4 6 Each member shall reside within the territorial jurisdiction of Orange County. In <br /> 4 7 addition, all members of the Commission shall have demonstrated special interest, experience or <br /> 4 8 education in history, architecture, landscape architecture, archaeology or related fields. <br /> 49 <br /> 1 <br />
