~~ .ao©~-doh <br />i~ ~~-o~ <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS f d <br />RESOLUTION HONORING LANTERN RESTAURANT <br />WHEREAS, Orange County. takes pride in all farmers and agricultural enterprises that enhance <br />the County; and <br />WHEREAS, local restaurants that buy vegetables, meats, and dairy products from local farms in <br />Orange and neighboring counties create new market opportunities for longtime farm families <br />and new young farmers who are beginning their farms; and <br />WHEREAS, chefs and restaurant owners have many opportunities to educate their diners about <br />supporting local farmers and agricultural enterprises; and <br />WHEREAS, Lantern Restaurant and its chef-owners, Andrea & Brendan Reusing, have <br />provided exceptional opportunities for local farmers to gain important local and national <br />exposure through articles and interviews published in national food publications; and <br />WHEREAS, Lantern Table, a dinner series initiated by Andrea Reusing focuses on local farms <br />and food producers, with periodic dinners throughout the year that showcase farmers and <br />products as the seasons progress; and <br />WHEREAS, the Triangle Slow Food chapter, currently led by Chef Andrea Reusing, provides <br />opportunities for the general public to attend special food tasting and provides direct. links to <br />local farmers markets websites; and <br />WHEREAS, Chef Andrea Reusing recently coordinated the `local farmer's market community' <br />contingent of 17 local farmers to the international Slow Food event named "Terra Madre" in <br />Turin, Italy; and <br />WHEREAS, as "convivium leader" for the local slow food chapter, Chef Andrea Reusing is <br />working to make the month of June an annual "EAT LOCAL" month; <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />congratulates Andrea & Brendan Reusing and their staff of 32 at the Lantern Restaurant on their <br />national recognition as one of three southeastern restaurants listed on the TOP 50 restaurants <br />across the nation, noting the restaurant's "commitment to local farmers." <br />This the 12th day of December, 2006. <br /> <br />Moses Carey, Jr., Chair <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />
