Telecommunication Tower Application 50
Piedniont Elect, ic Membership Corp
8.8.17a.1 a Telecommunication Towers — Additional Information
a) A site plan and detailed construction drawings are included in Tab 10 of
this Application Package: As indicated, PEMC plans on reusing the
existing communication building in place and removing the existing 220'
(ft) tower once the new system is in place.
b) No new structures are planned for this site.
C) Since this site is on PEMC property and not accessible to the general
public, no additional landscaping is proposed other than what is already in
place. PEMC is prepared to utilize this tower for co- location purposes and
will do so for a fee.
d) The location of the tower will not be located within a V2 mile of any other
tower suitable for use. As indicted above, the existing 220' tower at this
site will be removed once the new tower is constructed.
e) AUE did investigate the possibility of utilizing existing towers in the
nearby area. A complete analysis is included in Tab 7 of this Application
Package. In response to Orange Counties desire for co- location, AUE
conducted a detailed analysis of all nearby towers that might be
considered for usage by PEMC. In Tab 7 of this Application Package,
propagation maps are included that indicate the radio coverage areas of all
the nearby towers would reduce the two -way radio coverage area by 30 %.
A total of approximately 20 miles coverage is proposed by the new PEMC
tower while the best coverage available from the American Tower in the
area would be 14 miles.
f) The FAA approval requires that the tower be lighted. It will utilize a dual
lighting system for day and night operations. This precludes the need
from painting the tower with contrasting colors. PEMC will deploy a
white medium intensity strobe light for daytime marking and dual-red
marker lights for nighttime marking. The tower will be galvanized grey in
color.
g) Since PEMC is constructing the tower on its own properly and has no
intention of abandoning or not using the tower since it will be utilized for
utility operations, a draft bond is not being submitted at this time. Should
Orange County require this, it will be provided. PEMC respectfully
requests that this requirement be waived for this application.
h) Included in Tab 8 of this Application Package is the listing of all property
owners who are located within 1000 feet of the PEMC Headquarters
parcel. Also included is a copy of the letter that was mailed by certified
mail return receipt requested to each of the property owners advising them
Prepared by:
Alexander Utility Engineering, Inc. 6/28/2006 Page 5 of 6
