~~5 -a7oc~~ --0'7 <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMIVfISSIONERS ~ "~ l °~ ~ ~J <br />~~ <br />RESOLUTION <br />Approval of Agricultural Conservation Easement between <br />Orange County and Vickie and David I~IcKee <br />1JifHEREAS, Orange County has an adopted goal. promoting the preservation of farmland in <br />the County; and <br />yl(HEREAS, agriculture in Orange County is an important facet of the economy and way of <br />life in the County; and <br />~kt'HEREAS, one component ofi the Lands Legacy Program is the acquisition ofi conservation <br />easements on prime or threatened farmland within water supply watersheds; and <br />WHEREAS, the McKee farm includes approximately 92 acres in the Gane Creek protected <br />watershed, consists of a majority of prime soils, and is located in an agricultural community <br />with goad access to farm markets; and <br />VIfHEREAS, a matching grant was awarded to Orange County from the federal Farm and <br />Ranch Land Protection Program to help protect the future of this fame with an agricultural <br />conservation easement; and <br />VItHEREAS, a conservation easement on approximately 92 acres of this farm provides awin- <br />win scenar"ro -ensuring the preservation of this farmland for future generations, <br />compensating the McKee family for this long-term commitment, and establishing a lasting <br />legacy for both the Kirk. and McKee families; <br />NC~~tV, THEREFORE,I3E IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />does hereby 1 }accept on behalf of Grange County the agricultural conservation easement to <br />protect prime farmland owned by Vickie and David McKee; 2} approve the execution of this <br />conservation easement agreement with Vickie and David: McKee, in accordance with the <br />terms of the proposed easement agreement, subject to final review by staff and the, county <br />attorney; and 3) authorize the Chair and the Glerk to sign the easement agreement on behalf <br />of the Board, with a closing to occur on or about November 30, 2006. <br />Thi <br />
