Commissioner Gordon said that she and Commissioner Jacobs went to some <br /> Cooperative Extension Director interviews and the question has to do with whether the final <br /> appointment would be by the County Commissioners or whether the Manager can do this. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said that the hiring would be done by the time the County <br /> Commissioners reconvene and it is a State position, not a County position. <br /> Commissioner Gordon asked that the decision come through the Board to have the <br /> final word on this hiring. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said that would be suitable as long as there is not a two-month <br /> delay. <br /> Chair Foushee said that she would not want to hold up the hiring process. <br /> Commissioner Yuhasz said that he does not feel the need to weigh in on this position. <br /> Commissioner Gordon said that she and Commissioner Jacobs could give the Board <br /> some consultation. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Gordon, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br /> approve the Board of County Commissioners accepting the courtesy invitation of replying on <br /> the hire of the Cooperative Extension Director. If it comes through during the summer break, <br /> then the Manager can contact the Board. <br /> Frank Clifton said that the University would like the Board's concurrence to their <br /> recommendation. The University will make the hire but does not want to hire someone that the <br /> County has objections to. <br /> VOTE: Ayes, 2 (Commissioner Jacobs and Commissioner Gordon); Nays, 5 <br /> MOTION FAILED. <br /> Commissioner Pelissier— none <br /> Commisioner Jacobs said that he brought up having a work session in the fall on solid <br /> waste and there was no motion and he wants to make sure that this will happen. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Pelissier to <br /> have a work session before the end of the calendar year on solid waste. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Commissioner Jacobs announced that the Orange County Visitor's Bureau won four <br /> Tourism and Marketing awards this week. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said that the County Commissioners got an email about Work <br /> First clients that worked for Southern Season. The State now wants to end the program by <br /> June 30th instead of September 301h <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Nelson to <br /> ask the Chair to write letter on the County Commissioners' behalf expressing objection to the <br /> abrupt end of the Work First program at Southern Season. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> Commissioner Jacobs said that on the follow-up sheet there was a request from <br /> Commissioner Yuhasz to discuss opportunities to talk about Board of County Commissioners <br /> members to discuss how to put an item on the agenda. The target date is January 1, 2011 <br /> with the Chair, the Vice-Chair, and Donna Baker. He said that it was unfair to ask them to <br /> meet on New Year's Day.
