S-u- <br />Terms of the Appointment of Rod Visser <br />~As Interim Orange County Manager <br />On July 27, 2006, the Board of County Commissioners appointed Roderick Visser to the position <br />of Interim County Manager for Orange County, under the provisions of NCGS § 153A-84. The <br />Board confirms the terms of that appointment as follows: <br />1. Mr. Visser will perform the duties of County Manager as outlined in NCGS § <br />153A-82. <br />2. The effective date of this appointment is August 31, 2006. <br />3. Mr. Visser's annual salary, effective September 1, 2006, will be the salary of the <br />County Manager on August 31, 2006, namely $148,633.00, which annual salary will be prorated <br />for the duration of Mr. Visser's appointment. <br />4. Mr. Visser will receive a monthly travel allowance of $500. This travel allowance <br />will be paid on the first business day of each month during Mr. Visser's appointment. <br />5. The salary and travel allowance benefit will be paid to Mr. Visser for a minimum <br />of two months. <br />6. All other County benefits accruing to Mr. Visser as a full time, permanent Orange <br />County employee will continue to accrue to Mr. Visser during the period of his appointment as <br />Interim County Manager. <br />7. During this appointment, Mr. Visser will serve "at will" as Interim County <br />Manager. <br />8. Notwithstanding Mr. Visser's "at will" appointment as Interim County Manager, <br />during the time that he serves as Interim County Manager, he will retain his status as a full time, <br />permanent non-Board appointed County employee for all purposes contained in the Orange <br />County Personnel Ordinance. <br />9. Mr. Visser's appointment as Interim County Manager will terminate no later than <br />his planned retirement date of December 31, 2006. It will terminate upon the first day of work of <br />the new County Manager, if the new County Manager's first day of work is prior to December <br />31, 2006. <br />10. If, at any time before Mr. Visser retires, the Board of Commissioners terminates <br />his appointment as Interim County Manager for any reason, he will thereafter hold his former <br />position of Assistant County Manager; his salary and benefits then reverting to the salary and <br />benefits he received before his appointment as Interim County Manager. <br />This Appointment document will become part of Mr. Visser's permanent Orange County <br />personnel file. <br />F:\Lisa\orange county\interim mgr appt approved by BOCC 82206.doc <br />
