ITEMS FOR DECISYON--REGULAR AGENDA <br />0 CHILDREN'S PROTECTIVE SERVICES .SOCIAL WORKER <br />Commissioner Hartwell noted that the General Assembly provided funds for <br />additional protective services'. However, the funds were received so late this year <br />that by the time the person is hired, the Gounty will not expend the total amount. <br />Approximately $9,000 will not be spent. Social Services would like to channel this <br />money into risk assessment. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Hartwell <br />to approve the acceptance of the additional funds from the N.C. Division of Social <br />Services to employ an additional Children's Protective Services Social Worker III and <br />creation of a Social Worker III position, effective January 1, 1990 and to channel the ':'~ <br />remainder of the funds into risk assessment. ;i <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS `~~~-•-} <br />1. CLASSIFICATION AND Ps STUDY <br />Personnel Director Addie Turner reported on the Position Classification and <br />Pay Study. The grant funds from the Duke - UNC Centex for Research on Warren and <br />sponsored by the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation will cover the costs of a pay equity and <br />classification study for Orange County. These funds were obtained through the efforts <br />of the Commission for Women. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Hartwell, seconded by Commissioner Halkiotis <br />to approve the project, accept the funding from Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and <br />authorize the Chair to sign the contracts following staff review and revisions to the <br />contracts as required by County Attorney and Staff. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS, <br />~ ELECTRONIC HOUSE ARREST SYSTEM REPORT <br />Purchasing Director Pam Jones asked the $oard's consideration in implementing <br />the Electronic House Arrest System in Orange Gounty and to approve a lease providing <br />all necessary equipment and software. In order to minimize both the current and <br />anticipated overcrowded conditions, the Sheriff's Department is proposing the use of <br />an Electronic House Arrest Program. The daily cost per inmate on a three year lease <br />agreement would be $4.63. <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Halkiotis, seconded by Commissioner Hartwell <br />to approve the use of the Electronic House Arrest System and authorize the Ghair to <br />sign the equipment lease and the software license agreement with BI, Inc. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />
