<br />Approved: 10/l7/89 . <br />- - ~ MINUTES ~ <br />ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONER`S Y_ _. <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />OCTOBER 2, 1984 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session an Monday, October. <br />2, 1989 at 7:30 P.M, in the courtroom of the Old County Gourthause, Hillsborough, NC. <br />BOARD MEMBERS PRESENT: Chairman Moses Carey, Jr., and Commissioners Stephen <br />Halkiotis, John Hartwell, Shirley E. Marshall and Don Willhoit. <br />TTY ORNEY PRESENT: Geoffrey Gledhill <br />STAFF PRESENT: County Manager John M. Link, Jr., Assistant County Managers Albert <br />Kittrell and Ellen Liston, Deputy Clerk to the Board Kathy Baker, Clerk to the Board <br />Beverly A. Blythe, Personnel Analyst II Karen Baulding, Erosion Control Officer Warren <br />Faircloth, Housing and Community Development Director Tara Fikes, Purchasing Director <br />Pam Jones, Planner Eddie Kirk, Economic Development Director Sylvia Price, Planner <br />Mary Scearbo, and Personnel Director Adciie Turner. <br />A . $OARD AND MANAGERS CONLMENTS r <br />Commissioner Hartwell distributed a brothure announcing two forums an "Choices". <br />These forums will be presented by the Long Terra Care Committee the last two Saturdays <br />in October. <br />Commissioner Halkiotis asked that the Manager assist him in determining the <br />intentions of the City of Durham in disposing sludge on Orange County farms. He <br />xeceived an invitation to attend an information meeting in Person County. He <br />contacted some farmers and only two were in favor of spreading sludge i.n Orange Gaunty <br />and the others were against it. With reference to the emergency shelter set up in <br />preparation for hurricane Hugo, he asked the Manager's assistance in getting a pay <br />phone placed in the gym lobby. This is necessary to allow those using the shelter <br />access to phones. He expressed a concern about emergency generators. He suggested <br />that the budget next year include funds to purchase generators for the shelters. <br />In response. to an accusation made at the September S Public Hearing on watershed <br />protection, Gammissioner Halkiotis read a statement entitled "I am Not a Communist". <br />A copy of this statement is in the permanent agenda file in the Clerk's Office. <br />B.
