ORANGE COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: September 2, 2010
Action Agenda
Item No. ~- C~
SUBJECT: Re-naming of the Recreation and Parks Advisory Council
DEPARTMENT: Environment, Agriculture, PUBLIC HEARING: (YIN) No
Parks and Recreation
ATTACHMENT(S):
RPAC Roster
INFORMATION CONTACT:
Lori Taft, 245-2660
David Stancil, 245-2510
PURPOSE: To provide the opportunity for the Board to consider renaming of the Recreation
and Parks Advisory Council (RPAC).
BACKGROUND: The Board of Commissioners approved a recommended name change for the
Department of Recreation and Parks to Department of Parks and Recreation in March 2008.
Recently the Parks and Recreation Department was combined with the former Environment and
Resource Conservation Department (ERCD) and the Soil and Water Conservation District
creating the new Department of Environment, Agriculture, Parks and Recreation..
At the Board's June 10, 2010 work session, the BOCC discussed re-naming the council to track
with recent department name changes. Commissioner Gordon suggested the name Parks and
Recreation Advisory Council or "PRAC". No vote or action was taken to confirm this at the work
session. At the August 4, 2010 RPAC meeting, the council discussed the potential name
change and Commissioner Cordon's suggestion. The council wished to suggest an alternative
and recommend the name "Parks and Recreation Council." If approved, this choice would make
meaningful use of the acronym: PARC.
The current RPAC membership roster is attached.
FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with this item.
RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board approve the Council's
recommendation of the name: "Parks and Recreation Council."
