VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />- -~.-, Y <br />RESOLUTIONS OR PROCLAMATIONS - - <br />1 bECLARATION OF EMS WEEK IN RANGE COUNTY <br />Motion was made by Commissioner Marshall, seconded by Commissioner Hartwell to <br />adopt the proclamation designating the week of September 17-23, 1989 as EMS Week in <br />Orange County as stated below, <br />EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK <br />WHEREAS, Governor James G. Martin has proclaimed the week of September 17-23 <br /> , <br />1989, as Emergency Medical Services Week in North Carolina, and. <br />WHEREAS, the dedicated employees of the Emergency Medical Services provide <br /> professional, life-saving advanced care to the citizens of our County <br /> and persons in need from other areas of our County, and <br />WHEREAS, the devoted voluriteers provide basic and advanced care to sick and r <br /> injured persons in our County through their many unselfish hours of <br /> training and service, and <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Orange County have unanimously supported the Emergency <br />. Medical Services through both taxes and generous donations, now <br />_ THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Gommissioners proclaim the Week of <br />~, '~ September 17-23, 1989 as Emergency Medical Services Week and encourage <br />i,::'.,,,i all citizens of Orange County to continue to support their Emergency <br />~~ •~~ Medical Services program. <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br />2. PROCLAMATION _ NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COA'I~iTJNITY ACTION AGENCIES <br />Motion was made by Chairman Carey, seconded by Commissioner Hartwell ta~adopt the <br />proclamation to celebrate the silver anniversary of President Johnson's signing of the <br />Economic Opportunity Act as printed below: <br />PROCLAMATION <br />NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCIES <br />in cooperation with <br />°THE JOINT ORANGE CHATHAM COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY <br />WHEREAS, it has been twenty-five years since this nation declared unconditional <br />war on poverty through the enactment of the Economic Opportunity Act, signed into law <br />on August 20, 1964; and <br />WHEREAS, the purpose of this legislation was to eliminate the paradox of poverty <br />in the midst of plenty in this nation; and <br />WHEREAS, the cornerstone of America's war on poverty has been the Community Action <br />Agencies, created to offer the nation's poor "a hand up, r}ot hand "out" and <br />
