Peer educators receive a nominal stipend upon completing 20hrs. of training and are provided <br />other non-monetary incentives throughout their involvement in the program. <br />Current infrastructure includes 41 peer educators, close partnerships with 2 school health <br />coordinators, 24 trained NOT/ATS facilitators in middle and high schools, extensive 100% <br />TFS signage in middle and high schools in one district, two district substance abuse policies <br />that promote the NOT and ATS programs, one self-sufficient high school T.R.U. Club, <br />numerous educational and instructional materials and aids, and one full time program <br />coordinator with office space and equipment. <br />Orange County is the service area reached. According to the 2000 Census, OC had 118,183 <br />residents of which 20% are under 18 years old. The youth population is the primary focus of <br />this program. Youth. are predominantly engaged through the schools but also through extra- <br />curricular, community, and faith-based groups. The business and restaurant communities are <br />also engaged in the program in order to protect youth from tobacco advertising and exposure <br />to secondhand smoke. Adult populations are engaged to help youth advocate for pro-health <br />policies and practices that protect young people from tobacco use. Racial and ethnic <br />minorities are reached through the program and the peer educators currently involved in the <br />program represent various racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. <br />Proaosed Program Plan <br />(24,000 characters) 45% of Total Score <br />Describe your proposed program plan for the entire grant period, including specific goals, <br />objectives, best practice activities and indicators to measure progress. The <br />program's peer educators are integral participants in all four focus areas: preventing youth <br />tobacco initiation, providing youth tobacco cessation support, eliminating youth exposure to <br />secondhand smoke, and involving and engaging diverse youth populations.
