Table 21 also lists their number of employees and their product or <br />service. <br />4.4 Income and Wages Profile <br />Communities across the country are recognizing the importance of affordable housing to <br />their future economic and social well- being. Economic growth is at risk when growth in jobs <br />and population are not matched by the growth in the supply of affordable housing. For <br />businesses, the ability to attract and retain labor depends partly on the availability of decent <br />and affordable housing. <br />Among the social concerns are basic issues of equity for low- moderate income working <br />families. In many communities, people who provide the bulk of vital services - teachers, <br />firefighters, police officers and laundry and restaurant workers - often themselves cannot <br />afford to live there. Yet, it is often in these communities where affordable housing for <br />working families is most needed and that the most opposition to such housing exists. <br />Moreover, a host of social problems can occur when working families face a shortage of <br />affordable housing. Family disruption, overcrowding and congestion degrade the quality <br />of life in the communities for all residents. <br />The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes Metropolitan Area Occupational Employment and <br />Wage Estimates for metropolitan areas in the United States. Table 22 shows the <br />employment and wage estimates for 2003 for the Akron MSA which includes the City <br />Cuyahoga Falls. Specific data for the City is not available. <br />
